New Delhi, Aug 29 : The Karnataka Waqf Board has moved the Supreme Court challenging Karnataka High Court decision, which allowed Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to take place at Idgah Maidan in Bengalurus ChamarajpetSenior lawyer Kapil Sibal, who is representing the Muslim body, raised the issue before an apex court comprised of Chief Justice U.
U.Lalit and requested an urgently to hear the issue.
Sibal claimed that unnecessary tensions between religions were being created in Lalit and the surrounding area.After hearing brief arguments the courts top judge voted to hear the case on Tuesday.
In the last week the high court granted permission to host Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at Idgah Maidan in Bengalurus Chamarajpet.The high court had ruled that the government could make an order to allow the festival to take place on the ground.
The court ruled after the government of the state filed an appeal to contest the interim order on August 25 to preserve the existing rules.The court amended the interim order and permitted the state administration to examine and make appropriate decisions regarding applications for use of the property in the dispute for cultural and religious activities for a short period of time from August 31st to.ss/dp.
