Gujarat Teachers launch a campaign called “Samaydaan” to support students. (Lead, correction para 6).

Gandhinagar : Dec 13, 2013 - The Gujarat government announced that more than 22 lakh teachers from government and grant-in-aid schools, as well as private primary, secondary, and higher education institutions will be providing an additional 100 hours to children in the "Samaydaan" campaign.

This is to compensate for learning losses caused by the pandemicTo compensate for education losses caused by Covid-19, the Samaydaan" campaign will run from December through April 2015.

More than 2 lakh teachers in the 43,500 state primary schools and 12,500 secondary schools will give 100 hours of their time.For classes 1 through 5, special emphasis will be placed on writing and mathematics, while classes 6-8 will focus on the "tough points".

As per subject load, special education will be provided for classes 9-12.These additional hours will be provided by the schools before and after school, as well as on Sundays or public holidays.

Students appearing for class 10 and 12 board examinations will be given special guidance after completing their remaining curriculum.While making an appeal and trying to woo retired teachers, local training graduates, and other voluntary organisations to join the campaign, the Bhupendra Patel-led government is expecting more than two crore man hours to be voluntarily spent by teachers to make this campaign successful.

In a release on Sunday, Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said: "The state government has taken an important decision to organise a special 100-hour Samaydaan campaign in schools across the state in the interest of the students in order to alleviate the impact on childrens learning levels during the Covid period.The decision is taken in the wider interest of students in order to reduce the gap in learning brought about by the pandemic when the schools were closed for a long time.
