The top diplomat from South Korea will attend the G-7 ministerial meetings in Britain

Seoul, Dec 8, 2008 : Chung Euiyong, South Korean Foreign Minister, will visit Britain this weekend to participate in a meeting of foreign- and development ministers from the Group of Seven industrialised countries (G-7), his ministry announced Wednesday.
According to the ministry, the two-day session will open in Liverpool on Saturday and will focus on global issues such as fair access to Covid-19 vaccines, cooperation on global supply chains, economy and security in the Indo-Pacific region, and gender equality.

South Korea, although it is not a member of G-7, has been invited to the sessions as a guest alongside Australia, India and South Africa, and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.According to Yonhap news agency, Britain is the rotating president of the G-7 sessions.

He intends to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from other countries while he is there.

It is being asked if he will meet bilaterally Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Japanese Foreign Minister, who was elected last month amid long-running stand-offs between neighboring countries over shared history, particularly Japan’s brutal colonization of Korea between 1910 and 1945.
