Remains of another Korean War soldier identified

Seoul, Nov 26 : .DNA analysis has identified the remains of a soldier who died in the 1950-53 Korean War.

They were found at a former battle location more than a decade ago, the Defence Ministry announced Friday.
The remains of Pfc.Lim Ho-dae was born after his daughter registered her DNA sample at the government.According to Yonhap News Agency, she was just one month old when her father entered the war.

Lim’s remains were discovered in Hwacheon (118 km east Seoul) in 2010.

He was found with other remains, including Pfc.Jung Chang-soo was identified in September.

Lim was killed in a battle that took place in October 1950 when South Korean troops were fighting their way north from Nakdong River.

This river served as the country’s last defense line against invading North Korean forces.

It marks the 180th identification of troop remains in this manner since 2000, when the country started the excavation project.

This year, the military recorded a record number of 23 fallen soldiers.

Around 140,000 South Korean troops died in action and approximately 450,000 were injured during the war.

Around 123,000 remains of South Korean soldiers who have been killed in action are still missing.

The Ministry announced that it would host a ceremony to welcome Lim back and bury his remains in a national cemetery.
