Chennai, Nov 26 : , The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert in five districts in Tamil Nadu following heavy rains on Thursday that caused flooding and waterlogging in the southern part. Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts are currently facing severe rains, with roads and rails submerged in water.
Many residential areas and hamlets are now under water, and schools and colleges will remain closed.
Thoothukudi received 25 cm of rains on Thursday evening, and heavy rains continued to fall on Friday morning.
Due to poor visibility and bad weather conditions, flights were diverted to Tiruchi airport.Tracks were submerged in water and trains were not able to operate.
Overflowing rivers and streams, heavy rains with lightning, thundering, and thundering are common in several southern states, including Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli and Dindugal.

The district administrations of Chennai and Nagapattinam, Tiruchi and Tiruvarur and Vellore have declared Friday holidays for schools and colleges.
Villupuram and Myladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram district collectors also ordered holidays for schools.
The IMD has forecast heavy rains in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and other districts on Saturday and Sunday.
