Continued red alert in Chennai and adjacent districts during heavy rains

The India Meteorological Department has kept the red alert in Chennai (and adjoining districts) on Thursday due to heavy rainfallsThe IMD reports that a depression was formed above SouthWest Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning.

It is located 310km southeast of Chennai.An IMD statement stated that the storm could move northeastwards to cross North TN and South Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to the weather bureau, Chennai will experience a heavy rainfall spell with heavy rains in many places.The weather department also forecast very heavy rains in South Tamil Nadu.

Tiruppur saw the most rainfall in Tamil Nadu, with 20 cm recorded on Thursday morning.Heavy rains continue to batter Puducherry, Karaikal and other educational institutions.
