Manchester, Nov 29, : , Manchester United announced Monday that Ralf Rangnick was appointed interim manager for the remainder of the English Premier League season. Manchester United stated in a statement that they were delighted to announce Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as interim manager.
The club also confirmed that he would continue in a consulting role.
The contract will see the 63-year old take over the first team from June to then stay at the club for at most two more years as a consultant.
United and Lokomotiv Moscow reached an agreement last week to release Rangnick, who was the Russian club’s manager of sports development.
He will replace Michael Carrick, who was temporarily in charge of the team last week’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Villarreal and Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal.
Ralf Rangnick stated in a statement that he was excited to join Manchester United and is focused on making this a successful year for the club.
“The squad is full with talent and has a great mix of youth and experience.
My focus for the next six-months will be on helping these players reach their full potential as individuals and as a team.He said that he was looking forward to consulting the club on long-term goals.
John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director, confirmed the development.
“Ralf is a respected coach and innovator in European football.
His nearly four decades of coaching and management experience made him our top choice for interim manager.He stated that everyone at the club looks forward to working with him in the coming season, and for two more years in his advisory role.”
Manchester United has sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Premier League manager, following the humiliating defeat against Watford.This ended a three-year relationship with him.
United’s performance under Solskjaer was poor, despite the presence and skill of Cristiano Ronaldo.United suffered big losses against archrivals Liverpool, Manchester City and Watford over the last few weeks.
Solskjaer, 48, had a successful playing career at Old Trafford.He was a great substitute and scored crucial goals many times during the time of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Michael Carrick, a former United player who helped Solskjaer for three years, will continue to lead the first team until Ralf receives his work visa.
