San Francisco, November 23rd : , Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek plans to launch its ARM chips for Windows-powered machines.However, a report claims that Qualcomm is in an exclusive deal with Microsoft on Windows ARM.This agreement will expire shortly. XDA Developers reports that Qualcomm always has had a good relationship with Microsoft.
Microsoft and Qualcomm first introduced Windows on ARM in 2016
Microsoft’s exclusivity deal with Qualcomm may be ending, opening up opportunities for other players such as Samsung, MediaTek and Apple’s M1 chip, which might eventually support Windows on Arm.
Microsoft is also working to develop its Arm-based processors, both for future Surface devices and servers.The majority of Azure cloud services are provided by Microsoft using Intel-based processors.Additionally, the Surface range is powered by Intel chips.
MediaTek’s ARM-based chips are set to be launched for Windows-powered PCs in the next few years, according to reports.In 2019, the chip manufacturer also built 5G modems to support Intel-powered computers and entered into partnership.
MediaTek is already a player in this segment.The company offers Chromebooks with low-end, entry-level and high-end chips.
