Doha : , December 8, 2008 – Qatar and Turkey held their 7th session at Doha of the Qatari–Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee and concluded cooperation agreements in various areas. The meeting was co-chaired by the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep TAYYIP Erdogan, Xinhua reported citing a statement Qatar made on Tuesday.
According to the statement, they discussed how to strengthen and enhance bilateral strategic ties and what opportunities there are for bilateral cooperation in many areas, such as economy, finance, sport, defense, security and endowments.
Qatari Emirate highlighted the importance of bilateral meetings to reach the objectives of the Supreme Strategic Committee in consolidating their strategic relationship.
He believed that agreements could promote the mutual interests in different fields.
Erdogan, for his part, stressed the importance of this session to strengthen the cooperation between Turkey, Qatar and Turkey.
He also invited the Qatari Emirate to join the 8th session scheduled by the Supreme Strategic Committee in Turkey next year.
A bilateral meeting was also organized to discuss the most recent international and regional developments that are of mutual concern.
The two committee leaders concluded the meeting by witnessing the signing at Diwan of several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
Erdogan visited Doha Monday for a two-day official visit.
Qatar regards its relationship with Turkey as strategic and exceptional, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani (Qatari Deputy Prime Minister) stated in a Monday statement.
According to the Qatari diplomat, these meetings have served as an opportunity to boost Qatari-Turkish relations.
The agreements signed today will add 80 agreements already in place between the countries.
