Punjab CM stops unscheduled, interacts with auto-rickshaw drivers

Ludhiana : Monday 22 November 2012 - Auto-rickshaw drivers from Punjabs industrial city Ludhiana were treated to an unexpected guest by Chief Minister Charanjit Chaney, who stopped unscheduled to hear their concerns on the way to the grain markets.

The Chief Minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu (Punjab Congress President), sat down on a wooden bench with the owners of auto rickshaws and had a conversation.Chief Minister Channi, in his flawless style, enjoyed the tea they were served by their tea by placing a "mathi" into a glass of tea.The Chief Minister assured the participants that he would listen to their needs and be open to discussing them.The Chief Minister addressed the group after he was overcome by the rush from the drivers of auto-rickshaws.

Channis confession that he had once driven an auto-rickshaw in his early days struck an emotional chord.He won the hearts and respect of auto-rickshaw drivers by announcing that they will soon receive new registration certificates to prevent harassment.
