Palaniswami to CM: Provide yarn and yarn subsidies

Chennai, Nov 24, : Tamil Nadus Leader in the Opposition K.Palaniswami urged the DMK-led government to provide yarn and yarn subsidy for the weavers to weave Pongal sarees free of charge and dhotis and to reduce the import duties on cotton.

Palaniswami cited the impact of the rise in yarn prices over the past ten months on the textile industry.He stated that units were unable to accept new orders or execute existing orders at higher input prices.

He stated that hoarding and a duty hike on cotton imports are the main causes of the price rise that has affected handloom and powerloom units.Palaniswami stated that the Tiruppur Exporters Association will go on strike on November 26th and hold a hunger strike to protest the price rise.
