Delhi Police demands an apology for doctors who protested

Residents protesting in Delhi across the capital demanding the expediting of the counseling for NEET-PG2021 demanded Tuesday an apology from Delhi Police.

They were upset at the "stern" actions taken by police during Mondays Supreme Court marchWe want respect.We are now requesting this as our first demand.

"We demand an apology from police for their brutality against our fellow doctors," a protesting physician told IANS.The resident doctors marched towards the Supreme Court on Monday.However, the Delhi Police stopped them mid-way.

The doctors refused to allow them to continue the march and surrendered their medical apron to the Delhi Police to register their protest.They claimed they were assaulted and dragged during the march to The Top Court.

According to the police, seven officers sustained injuries in the chaos.Two buses also were destroyed during the chaos, according to police.

IANS had heard from Rohit Meena, Additional DCP (Central District), that they detained 10-12 doctors and released them within an hour.Doctors are currently protesting outside of Safdarjung Hospitals emergency ward.

The agitation briefly caused disruption to all emergency services including the ambulance service.The ongoing protests have severely affected healthcare facilities.

Residents doctors stated that they were the first ones to feel the effects of pain from patients.A doctor said, "We understand their pain, but until we are treated with dignity and like human beings, we will not stop this agitation.
