Manchester, Nov 28, : .Manchester City beat West Ham United with goals by Ilkay Gundogan & Luis Fernandinho.
They won a match that was marred by severe weather to win three points and climb back up to the second spot, which they had lost to Liverpool for 24 hours. Gundogan scored in half-time, and then Fernandinho scored in the final minute to make it 2-0.It was a good thing for Pep guardiola’s side as West Ham United scored in third minute added time through Manuel Lanzini.City was able to leave the pitch.
City thanks substitute Fernandinho for scoring the goal that secured three points.
City has now scored 29 points in 13 matches, one more than Liverpool and one less than Chelsea (30).
City had a lot of chances in freezing temperatures but could only capitalize on two because they found West Ham’s well-organized defense frustrating.
Space was difficult to find with the visitors being resolute in defense and industrious midfield.
West Ham even looked dangerous on occasions when they attacked.Slowly, however, the defending champions started to find gaps and create opportunities.
Mahrez had the ball in his net, but the goal was correctly ruled out as offside.Visibility became difficult due to the snowfall that was continuing.
Both teams were affected by the slow play and difficult conditions caused by the blizzard.
City were adapting, and the chances started to tote up until finally, in the 34th minute.
Joao Cancelo passed the ball to Mahrez on Mahrez’s right.The Algerian moved into the box and then sent a short pass to Gundogan in the middle to make it 2-0.Mahrez came close to scoring again just before the break, but the Hammers held firm and did not concede again.
City quickly regained the lead.
On 56 minutes Gundogan fed Sterling on his left and his low cross was met with Jesus.Fabianski just missed the connection, but Aaron Creswell managed a clear before the ball rolled into a net, colliding with a post as he did so.
The second came a minute after the end of normal.Jesus made his way into the box from to the left and picked out Fernandinho, who hit a low shot into bottom left corner.He’d only been on pitch for a few minutes.
Manuel Lanzini had time to win a point, but it was too late.The champions won three well-deserved points.
Other matches saw Verton defeated by Brentford 1-0, and Watford defeated by Leicester City 4-2.
