Prasar Bharati is moving toward direct-to-mobile radio broadcasting

Prasar Bharatis CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati stated Wednesday that the company had entered into an agreement with IIT-Kanpur to test the feasibility of direct-to-mobile radio broadcasting.

He pointed out that digitization was among the major changes in the past three to four years that have passed since his arrival at the public broadcaster "Practically every Doordarshan channel and All India Radio station now has a digital presence spanning multiple platforms, be it YouTube for livestreaming or on social media to engage with the audience," he said, and added that the Prasar Bharati app, which has 200-plus radio streams, was one of a kind in the world, for, irrespective of where one was in the world, one could listen to ones hometown radio station.He stated that practically every Doordarshan channel or All India Radio station has a digital presence on multiple platforms.
