His roles as Janardhan Jaitley and Panditji in the web series ‘Matsya Kaand’ and ‘Illegal 2,’ are memorable.

Piyush Mishra, a multi-talented veteran artist, says he doesn’t think he’s a talented individual.

He believes he is chosen by the Almighty.

Piyush told IANS that he had written his first play in school as a standard 8.My first professional theatre was in 1979, with ‘Dilli Teri Baat Nirali.I feel connected to the stage and have a sense that I belong.

Stage-fear was something I never experienced as a child.I believe I was meant to write, act in theatre, direct plays, and explore other creative outlets.

I know that people have praised me for my poetry, and all other work I have done.I don’t think I’m talented enough to be an artiste.

I believe I’m gifted and Almighty chose me to write “Arre Ruk Ja Re Bandeh”.

Piyush grew up in a world where moral policing is at its highest and artists and musicians are constantly questioned and forced into self-censorship.

He believes that storytelling becomes more powerful when there is socio-political change.

He stressed that storytelling should be used to communicate and not manipulate.

“The power of storytelling lies in the story, and the storyteller is responsible for how it is told. The storyteller must be aware of the socio-political context.

The socio-political context in which a story is told or presented to the audience will determine its impact.I believe the storyteller should be a communicator, not a manipulator. There is also objectivity.

It is easy to tell a powerful tale in a way that could misdirect a section of people.

If you are a responsible storyteller who understands the power and potential of the story, you would rather guide or encourage people in positive thoughts than mislead them. Are you thinking that my statements are too complex? But storytelling is all about simplicity!” The artiste smiled.

In light of the current moment when the discussion about the religious minority and majority is at the center stage in news and cinemas all over the world, it was worth referring back to the lyrics to the song ‘Badshah In Jail’ from the film Black Friday’.

The song is still relevant today, so IANS asked him what his mindset was when he wrote it.

Piyush responded, “If you’re specifically referring to that song, I wasn’t given any special instructions to write it.I was given the scene and the situation.I wrote it as I went along. Those first few words came out of my brainstorming. So I wrote ‘Raat hindole pe baitha ek/ Banda rota jhul gaya/ Padhli aaj kuraan magar main / Aayaton ko bhul gaya’.”

“Tell me which religion encourages violence, killing human beings.none!” The problem is that we don’t want to understand the subtext, but rather manipulate the meaning of scripture to suit our own purposes. This must stop! Pyaar se hasil hogi, wo naafrat se kahan?” Piyush signed off.
