Pegasus row: SC panel requests petitioners to submit their phone for technical evaluation

New Delhi, Nov 29, : .The Supreme Court has sent mails to petitioners asking for their mobile devices to be tested/technical examined.
The petitioners were asked to respond by December 5.A source claims that the email was sent to all 11 petitioners by the top court.However, only those petitioners who suspect their phones were hacked were required to submit their mobile devices for technical examination.

The technical committee informed the petitioners that if they want to make a statement before the technical committee, they would need to inform the committee to make arrangements for recording it.

Based on the Pegasus Project’s findings, 11 petitions were filed.Senior journalists N.Ram, Sashi Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas and advocate M.L.filed the petitions at the top court.Sharma, the Editors Guild of India activist Jagdeep Chhokar and Narendra Mishra.

Four journalists – Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, S.N.M.Abdi, Premshankar Jha, and Rupesh Singh Singh – along with activist Ipsa Shatakshi, moved the top court with three separate petitions.They claimed their mobile phones were hacked using spyware, and the forensic examination proved it.

The Supreme Court also gave the authority to the technical committee to develop its own procedure to implement and answer the terms.It can also hold such inquiry or investigation as it considers appropriate, take statements and request the records of any authority or individual.

The top court declared that it was forced to investigate the case to determine the truth on October 27th.It appointed Justice R.V., a retired top court judge to supervise the independent technical committee.Raveendran will investigate the Pegasus snooping claims.

Justice Raveendran would oversee the functioning of the technical committee and he will be assisted by Alok Joshi, former IPS officer and Dr Sundeep Oberoi, Chairman, Sub Committee in the International Organisation of Standardisation/International Electro-Technical Commission/Joint Technical Committee.

The bench directed that the committee submit its report promptly and scheduled the matter for further consideration after eight weeks.
