Parliament adopts Farm Laws Repeal Bill without debate (Roundup).

New Delhi, Nov 29, : , A year and two month after the President signed the three controversial farm laws, Monday’s Parliament passed a Bill to repeal them.This was a demand that has been held alive by farmers and opposition parties for the past year.
First, the Lok Sabha and then Rajya Sabha passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021 by voice vote without a debate amid heavy sloganeering from the opposition that wanted to have a discussion about the issue.The Bill was passed in both houses within minutes of its introduction by the government.

The following three Bills have been repealed: Farmers’ Produce Commerce and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation), Farmers (Empowerment and Protection), Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, Essential Commodities Amendment Bill 2020.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a group of farmers across the country, has been agitating since last year to repeal the three farm laws and legalize minimum support price (MSP), among other issues.

Soon after the Lok Sabha gathered at 12 noon, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister, presented the Bill.When opposition members began to raise slogans, some of them left their seats and walked towards the well.All demanded a discussion about the Bill.

Om Birla, the speaker, stated that the discussion would be possible if the members behaved and stopped sloganeering.The opposition members refused to relent.

The Speaker placed the Bill for voice vote, and it was passed within seconds.

Despite the fact that the opposition continued to protest the lack of discussion, they continued to shout sloganeering.

The Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented the Bill to the Rajya Sabha at 2 p.m.Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, said that the Bill was welcomed by opposition parties and that the opposition’s view on Repeal Bills demanded a discussion.

Rajya Sabha, the Deputy Chairperson, asked him to stop after he spoke more than three minutes.The Agriculture Minister moved the motion immediately, prompting the opposition benches and raising slogans.

Tomar, however, stated that there was no need to discuss the Bill and moved for it to be passed.It was then voted by voice vote.

Similar to last year, the government had also rushed through both houses when the original bills were passed on September 17th and September 20th.Opposition parties had attacked government then, and on Monday, the Bill to repeal those laws was passed through both houses.

Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, stated that “we knew that the Bills will be repealed.” This is the victory of farmers.But this government is afraid to have discussions.The government was wrong to withdraw bills from discussion.

Supriya Sule, NCP leader, stated that the Bill had been passed in Lok Sabha.She said this to media people: “This is a dark day for democracy.” The government wants to do its own talk, but is not willing to listen to the people’s talk.

Rakesh Tikait was one of the most prominent members of the farmers’ agitation.

He stated to media persons that the government wanted no protests, but that they would not leave the site until MSP is discussed, among other issues.

Opposition leaders’ claims were countered by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi who stated, “The Prime Minister has shown great heart and agreed to repeal three laws.” It was demanded by farmers’ organizations; it was demanded by opposition parties.We accepted their request and introduced this Bill.

Jairam Ramesh, a former Minister and Congress leader, had tweeted this morning: “Modi Sharma wants to push through the 3 Farm Laws Repeal Bill today in Parliament WITHOUT ANY DEBATE.” The 16-month-old laws were passed without any debate.Even more is the way of repeal.The Opposition calls for a discussion before repeal.”
