Ramallah, Nov 28, : Palestine expressed deep concern over the spread and spread of the new Covid-19 variation, also known as B.1.1.529, or Omicron.Israel announced that it had detected the first case. Kamal al-Shakhra (a spokesperson for the ministry) stated in a statement that the Palestinian Health Ministry will recommend tightening procedures at borders and crossing points as a precautionary measure.
Al-Shakhra stated that “the danger of the new variation lies in its rapid spread” and that the ministry’s workers and the health ministry “are ready to face the new variant.”
He also stated that the health ministry had identified areas in the West Bank that are popular with foreign tourists, including Jericho and Bethlehem, in collaboration with the concerned authorities, Xinhua news agency reported.
Al-Shakhra said that medical teams will conduct tests at all places they frequent in order to limit the spread virus.
Israeli media reported Friday that the Israeli health ministry had recorded the country’s first Omicron case.
According to the ministry, the variant was discovered by a genetic sequencing test performed on an Israeli returning from Malawi.
