Islamabad, Dec 1, : Pakistani President Arif alvi stated that new Cyber Security threats require a Strategy for effectively countering threats and protecting National data.The President House released a statement.Alvi, who addressed the awards ceremony for the first National Cyber Security Hackathon 2021 on Tuesday, stated that the risk of Cyber attacks has increased with Pakistan’s progress towards digitalisation.Xinhua reported.
The President cited recent cyber-attacks against the Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue and National Bank of Pakistan as examples and said that these incidents have drawn attention to a better defense against Cyber threats.
He said that Cyber data has become the most important commodity in the world and that Pakistan must produce a large number of Cyber Security graduates.
Cyber-attacks on the IT infrastructure of Pakistan’s National Bank were detected on October 29th.However, the bank did not suffer any financial losses or data breaches.
Local media reports that hackers broke hyper-V software from Microsoft in a similar attack on Federal Board of Revenue in August 2021.This brought down all tax machinery websites, according to local media reports.
Alvi stated that the infrastructure of vital importance, such as banks, credit card data and telecommunications, electricity, and dams, has been digitalized all over the globe, including Pakistan.They are also vulnerable to ransomware and Cyber attacks.
He said that the country’s defense has been linked to a better understanding and capability to develop and deploy a proper mechanism as a result of changing Security concepts.
He stated that a paradigm shift in policymaking is needed to keep the country safe from cyberattacks.
He also suggested that short-term online and virtual education could be used to prepare the human resources for the market.
