Pak the polling body prepares to hold early general elections

By Hamza AmeeIslamabad 19 Aug : Pakistan is in an era of extreme political tensions because former PM Imran Khan who was ousted in April by the vote of no confidence in Parliament and has kept political tensions high with massive protests and rallies calling for immediate and early general elections in the country.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has begun preparations for the forthcoming general elections, instructing its officials to prepare lists of polling personnel, polling stations, and the procedures to conduct the elections.

According to reports the poll body has taken the decision to train its personnel of the election and make them proficient with the latest trends in relation to general elections.The decision of the ECP to accelerate the process comes at moment where the incumbent Shehbaz Sharif government, as well as his coalition partners have repeatedly and clearly stated that elections will be held following the the end of the next years term.

However, some voices within the coalition including Pakistan People Party (PPP) have urged the early voting.On the other on the other hand, Khan has been staging massive public gatherings in various parts of the country, calling for the government as well as the ECP to announce an early election in which he declares that he will never be a part of the current government, which was established by a conspiracy to change the regime that was backed by the US and implemented by the opposition to overthrow his administration.

The sources also revealed that ECP is planning to hold general elections in October , which , as many believe is an opportunity for both sides for the former premier since he is the leader with the highest popularity in the eyes of the people.According to reports in the ECP the procedure of the delimitation of the constituencies was completed.

The ECP had solicited public comments and suggestions on the delimitation, and had published the final list of 266 constituencies of National Assembly and 593 constituencies of the four provincial assemblies.On the other side the government of coalition is focusing to get Khan disqualified in various cases, including Foreign Funding case, Tosha Khana case and anti-establishment social media campaign case, and on allegations of corruption.

The government is now faced with an important political challenge from Khan in the midst of he continues to attract massive numbers of supporters in large public gatherings.His popularity as a politician has shot up to the sky as his narrative of changing the government has been accepted well by the general public.
