New Delhi, Aug 31 : The Opposition is bound by its fundamental obligation towards the citizens of the nation to expose and denounce bills drafted by the government which are “detrimental to the rights of citizens, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have stated in the Delhi High Court.
The affidavits that were filed by the Gandhis were in response to an Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the registration of an FIR against them over alleged hate speech made in the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in 2019 that resulted in the Delhi protests in February of 2020.

In the process of naming the issue “Publicity Interest Litigation” In addition, they declared that “to hinder citizens from expressing their opinion about a law or bill that is passed by the federal government and placing the matter in the public domain in order to educate, provoke an argument, or build public opinion in favor of reform or change is a violation of the right of free free speech.”

Pointing out that there are no allegations under Section 153B (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), Gandhis said they were selectively picked up while not taking into consideration the speeches made by the members of the ruling party.

“The actions have fallen on sections of the nonconformist and independent sectors as well as the leaders of the parties that are opposed.In the meantime, a string of speeches delivered by leaders of the ruling party which fall squarely within the scope of the sections that the petitioner is seeking to invoke against the respondent, were conveniently removed by petitioners, which reveals the nuances of the procedure,” they stated.
