Shanghai, December 30, : , Two new lines of metro in Shanghai were opened on Thursday.This brings Shanghai’s total metro length to 831km, a status that authorities claim is its highest in the world.According to Xinhua, the Shanghai Metro said that the opening of these two lines will increase Shanghai’s total number of metro lines with fully automated systems to five.They have an operational length of 167km and rank first in the world.
Line 14 is Shanghai’s first metro-line fully automated for 8-carriage trains.It has an operational length of 38km.
It is expected that it will serve as the city’s horizontal arterial with 31 stations.
Line 18’s northern section is approximately 21km long and includes 18 stations.
The downtown traffic will be significantly reduced.
