Similar to the mishap that killed 45 people on October 30 in Mehabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh here is one more Volvo mishap has taken place in Karnataka.
Volvo multi-axle bus hit a bridge and caught fire in Haveri district of Karnataka on Thursday early morning.
Diesel tank of the bus got ruptured when the rear of the bus hit the bridge and later caught fire.Seven people were burnt to death and 25 passengers were injured in the tragic incident.
The bus, operated by Bangalore-based National Travels, was on its way from Bangalore to Mumbai.The accident occurred at around 3.20 a.m.near Kunimelli bridge, off Bankapura Cross in Haveri district of central Karnataka."The mishap took place around 2.45 a.m.when the luxury bus of Volvo make from Bangalore to Mumbai hit the railing of a bridge at high-speed and caught fire as its fuel tanker leaked," Sources said "The bus driver is absconding while its cleaner is injured and is in a hospital at Haveri," Kumar said.There were 43 men and six women among the passengers.
Though most of the passengers were asleep when the fire broke out and the flames started leaping up from beneath, all the survivors managed to escape by breaking the emergency exit window and jumping from the burning bus.
