Lucknow, December 1, 2008 : The World Health Organisations Global Young Tobacco Survey found that three out of every three students in Uttar Pradesh are addicted to tobaccoThe survey revealed that 37% of students smoke in their own homes, while 19.

8% do it at a friends house.

The friends spot is clearly the preferred smoking area for nearly 20% of teenagers in the state.According to the report, 13.5 percent of respondents reported that they smoke at school, 10.8 percent at public places, 8.9% at social events, and 9.7 percent at random places.Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS), a report on tobacco use among students, shows that 23 percent of Uttar Pradeshs students, 22% boys and 24% girls, smoke tobacco in some form.

GYTS is a cross-sectional, nationally representative, school-based survey that surveys students aged 13-15 years.It uses a global standardised methodology and has a probability proportional with the enrolment.
