Omicron, third-wave fears cause a spike in vaccination rates in K’taka

Bengaluru, Nov 29, : People in Karnataka who refused to receive Covid vaccine shots despite numerous appeals from the state government are now thronging vaccination centers amid fears about a new Covid variant Omicron or the outbreak of a third wave of the pandemic.
Despite having low turnout until last week, the primary health centres (PHCs of the state) are now seeing large footfalls due to the fear of the new Covid variant.

Between November 20-27, 27.64 million people received the vaccine shots.This is a significant increase in the number of people who have received the shots compared to the two weeks prior.

Between November 13 and 20, approximately 20.90 lakh doses of the shot were administered, while 17.54 million people received the shot between November 6 to 13.

According to data from the state health department, there has been an increase of people who have taken the first dose.It was 7 lakh last week, compared to 4-5 million earlier.

The health department has set a December deadline for achieving 100% vaccination.43 lakh people will need to receive their first dose of vaccine.

“People complained earlier about the inaccessibility of vaccine shots.We now have 80 lakh doses, but people aren’t coming forward,” K.Sudhakar, Helath Minister, stated earlier.

4.87 crore people are eligible for Covid vaccination.4.44 million people have been jabbed so far.1.5 million people will need to be vaccinated daily with the first dose in order to reach the target.The state had given 7,32,825,587 vaccine doses as of Sunday 9:59 pm.
