New Delhi, Nov 29, : Doctors in South Africa have seen the first signs of Omicron, a new Covid variant, as fear grows about a deadly strain.It is different from the Delta one.Patients infected with this strain are not yet officially listed by WHO.However, they can experience extreme tiredness and other symptoms.
“This is not a problem for all ages.Angelique Coetzee (Chairperson of the South African Medical Association) said that young patients can also experience extreme tiredness.
Coetzee stated in media reports that there is no significant drop in oxygen saturation.
According to the doctor, Omicron patients also reported mild muscle pains, a scratchy throat and dry cough.
Coetzee treated a majority of men under 40 years old, and about half of them had been vaccinated.
South African doctors said that Omicron strain patients have been able to recover without hospitalisation, which is a ray for hope.
The global risk associated with Omicron, a new Covid variant, is very high, according to the World Health Organisation.
The global health organization acknowledged that there are still many uncertainties.
The WHO stated that Omicron could spread further at the global level due to mutations that could confer immunity escape potential and transmissibility advantage.
