Omicron: Kerala orders 7-day quarantine for arrivals of high-risk countries

Thiruvananthapuram 29 November : .Veena George, Kerala Health Minister, stated Monday that although things have been under control following the detection of a new Covid variant Omicron, South Africa’s health minister, Veena George, said that while there has been no significant outbreak, she believes that all people arriving from high-risk areas will be quarantined for seven days.
She said that an RT-PCR test would be performed on the 8th day.If they are negative, they will have their observation continued.

George also stated that all four international airports are on high alert and that teams will be checking on all passengers arriving.

“At the moment there need not to be any worries but all have the responsibility to be cautious and careful.

Arrangements are already in place for isolation for anyone turning positive for this new variant,” she stated.On Tuesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will lead a detailed meeting that will review the situation.

The new variant’s scare comes at a time when Kerala has been registering 50 percent of all new Covid cases every day for the past few months and has a similar track record of having the total number active cases.

George urged everyone to get the vaccines.

According to the most recent figures, 96% of the over 18-year-old population have received the first dose and 63% have received both.

She stated that a worrying factor was the fact that around 1.4 million people who are due to receive the second vaccine are still not taking it.All such people should ensure they get the second dose as soon as possible.
