Ranchi the 26th of August : Ranchi, Aug 26 : Jharkhand Governor has decided to revoke the Assembly membership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.the Election Commission (EC) is expected to issue a notice in the near future, sources told Friday.The latest developments have led to speculation that Soren might announce his resignation from the position of Chief Minister in the near future.
Soren was in the middle of another crisis following the BJP complained to Governor Ramesh Bais about a stone quarry he took on lease in his name while he was in the position of the Chief Minister.
The BJP called it “a instance of infraction of the Office of Profit and Representation of the People Act”.
In the wake of this, the Governor asked the EC’s opinion regarding the issue.
The EC sent a notice to the complainant and Chief Minister Soren to ask for their opinion to the issue.
After having heard both sides After hearing both sides, the EC on Thursday recommended to the Raj Bhavan to cancel Soren’s Assembly membership.
Soren however, is able to again swear in as Chief Minister , by submitting an official note of his support (of lawmakers) to Governor.
It is still unclear whether he is allowed to participate in elections in the near future.
Sources in the know of things claimed that the ruling party has enough number of members in the Assembly and therefore there are no technical issues to be re-elected from the government.
A gathering of the leaders of the alliance party was in progress at the residence of the Chief Minister as of the time of making this report.
According to a source, Soren would his claim to form a new government after the submission of his resignation.
