Odisha CM declares Rs 507 Cr relief for cyclone-affected farmers

Bhubaneswar : Dec 27, 2007 - Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patel announced Monday a Rs 507 crore relief package for farmers who were affected by heavy rains caused by cyclone Jawad, which struck the Odisha coast during the first weekThe package provides that small and marginal farmers who suffer crop losses of 33% or more will be eligible for cash assistance (agriculture input subsidy) at Rs 6.

800 per hectare in both rain-fed areas and areas not irrigated.Rs 13.500 is available to areas with assured irrigation.The assistance will also be provided for perennial crops such as mango, cashew and coconut, which is Rs 18,000 per hectare.

Any farmer affected by the drought will receive an agricultural input subsidy of not less than Rs 2,000 for perennial crops and Rs 1000 for other crops.The Odisha government will provide 12,000 quintals high-quality paddy seed seeds to farmers in 12 affected districts.

It will also offer a 25% rebate for the 2021-22 Kharif seasons.Farmers will receive 50,000 micro-kits of pulse seeds as well as 4 lakh pocketfuls of vegetable seeds from the State Government at no cost.For cultivation of hybrid vegetables, approximately 1 lakh farmers will receive aid at Rs.4,000 per 0.20 ha.The statement also stated that a subvention of Rs 50 million will be given to cyclone-affected farmers via DBT, for the purchase of technical agricultural equipment.The affected farmers will receive approximately 5,000 pumps sets and 5,000 sprayers, with 50 percent subsidy.

The CMO stated that steps will be taken in order to speed up the preparation of crop harvest reports.This will allow farmers who have suffered 33% or more damage from crops in the affected area to settle their claims under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
