Bhubaneswar 13 August : The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved rural piped water supply projects that cost more than Rs 1200 crore in three districts.
The Cabinet, in the meeting, which was presided over by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the tender of approximately Rs 501.85 crore for the implementation of the mega pipelined water supply project that will provide clean drinking water in Dhenkanal district.The project is funded by of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) funding, according to state Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradip Kumar Amat.

In the same way, the cheapest offer of the lowest amount of 416.57 crore was approved by the cabinet to carry out the execution of another water supply project in Kendrapara district.

The third project for drinking water supply will be completed in Balasore district with an investment of the sum of 291.62 crore.The drinking water project is scheduled to be completed in the span of 24 months, he said.

The state government also has approved the implementation of roof-top rainwater harvesting system in a program called Community Harnessing and Harvesting rainwater artificially from Terrace to Aquifer (CHHATA) for an amount of five years with an estimated budget of the sum of Rs.270 crore.

The plan is to be implemented in 29500 private buildings as well as 1,925 government structures covering the area of 52 blocks as well as 27 localities of the state starting in 2022-23 to 2026-27.the Chief Secretary S.C.Mahapatra.

The cabinet also voted to raise and strengthen of the 36 embankments of saline with a their total length of 198.81 km, to meet the standards of cyclone resistance to bear the force of extremely severe cyclones with speeds of up to 250 km/hour.

This project will safeguard the landmass adjacent to it and the inhabitants from flooding as well as saline ingress and the surges of tidal of Bay of Bengal in four coastal districts that are prone to cyclones – Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Puri Mahapatra.

The Cyclone Resilient Saline Embankment Projects will be completed during the 2022-23 period until 2024-25, at a cost of the amount of Rs 763.48 crores, he added.

The cabinet also accepted the offer of more than Rs 1,000 crore to execute of underground pipelines to ensure quick complete of the Lower Suktel irrigation project of Bolangir district.

Additionally, the government approved the construction of an abridge-barrage-cum-bridge over the river Koel close to the village of Hamirpur in Sundargarh district with an estimated cost of 309 crore rupees.
