Prominent Telugu short story writer Kalipatnam Ramarao who is popularly known as KARA has been selected for the NTR National Award 2015.
The award carrying Rs.
Five lakh in cash and a gold medal will be presented to the writer on May 28, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and versatile actor late N.T.Rama Rao.Kalipatnam Ramarao is popularly known as Kara master born on November 9, 1924 at Ponduru in Srikakulam district.He worked as a teacher for many years and retired in 1979.
His first story, "Chitragupta", was a mini-story, written on the back of a postcard.He wrote many stories in the late 1960s including "Yagnam", "mahadaaseervacanamu", "veerudu-mahaveerudu", "Adivaram", "Himsa", "No room", "Sneham", "Arthi", "Bhayam", "Santhi", "Chavu", "Jevvana dhara", and "Kutra".
Kalipatnam is especially known for his psychological insights and his incisive analytical abilities regarding the social, economical, and political influences on daily life.Kara won Kendriya Sahitya academy award for his writings in 1995.
He retired as head master and currently running Katha Nilayam in Srikakulam.Previous recipients of the NTR award include Akkineni Nageswara Rao, a contemporary of late NTR, Bollywood great Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, thespian Sivaji Ganesan, music maestro Ilaiyaraja, Kannada actor Raj Kumar, director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and actress Waheeda Rehman among others.
