New York State declares disaster emergency amid Covid resurgence

Fridays declaration by Kathy Hochul, New York State Governor, was made in response to a new wave Covid-19 infectionsHochul stated in an executive order that New York State now has Covid-19 transmission at rates not seen since April 2020.According to official data released Friday by Xinhua news agency, the state had 6,295 cases with a test positive rate of 3.45 percent and 28 related deaths.According to the executive order, the number of new Covid-19 hospital admissions has increased over the past month to more than 300 per day.Hochul stated that the state must take a coordinated approach in order to ensure adequate hospital capacity across the state.She also directed the state comprehensive emergency plans implementation and authorized state agencies to assist local governments, individuals, and local governments in containing, preparing, responding to, and recovering from a state disaster emergency.

This was to protect state and local properties, as well as provide any other assistance that is necessary to protect public safety, health, and welfare.New York States daily new Covid-19 cases dropped to 500 in the middle year, but climbed to over 4,000 in August.

New York State declared a state emergency from Covid-19 in March 2020.The state of emergency was ended in June 2021.
