Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, Nov 26 : .The Supreme Court has established the new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Lakhimpur Kheri case in which four farmers were killed by an SUV.
S.B.IPS officers Shiradkar and Preetinder Sing and Padmaja Chauhan visited the crime scene at Tikunia village Thursday afternoon with retired judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court Rakesh K Kumar Jain.

The SIT team conducted an inspection of the violence spot, and created a map of it.The team also visited Agrasen inter college, where farmers had gathered to protest on October 3.The SIT team then traveled to Banbirpur village (4 kilometres from the violence spot).

Banbirpur was the venue for a wrestling match, with Keshav Prasad Maharya, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, as the chief guest.

Later that evening, SIT members met with all other SIT members including Upendra Agarwal, DIG, and former head SIT.There was no official statement.

It is possible to recall that the Supreme Court had previously expressed reservations about the manner in which the investigation was being conducted earlier by the SIT and had included three IPS officers into the probe team.

The reconstituted SIT is currently being led by Shiradkar, a 1993 batch IPS officer, who is currently posted in Lucknow as additional director general police (ADG), intelligence.

Preetinder Singh, a 2004 batch IPS officer from Punjab cadre, is currently posted in Saharanpur as DIG.

Padmaja Chauhan, a 1998 batch IPS officer, currently serves as IG, Recruitment Board.

Violence broke out at a Tikunia farmers’ protest on October 3.

The convoy of Ashish, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra Teni’s Son, allegedly killed four farmers and a journalist.Three BJP workers were lynched by angry farmers who retaliated.
