The new ISI chief has instructions to not release photos and footage

Gen Nadeem anjum, Director General (DG), of Pakistans Inter-Services Intelligence, (ISI), asked that all authorities with jurisdiction not release any picture or video footage taken during any official meetingFederal ministers stated that the government had not released any video or pictures of him for the same reasons.On Monday, the DG ISI attended the meeting of The National Security Committee.

According to The News International, however, almost all other people except the nations top spymaster were shown the photo and the video footage that was released by the government to the media.The Minister answered questions about the reasons by saying that the directive was given to all those involved from incumbent DG ISI that he not release his photos or videos of official meetings he attended.

The Minister stated that since his appointment to the DG ISI no photo or video of him has ever been made public.While commenting on the matter, Lt.Gen (retd), Amjad Shoaib stated that the fundamental principle of intelligence services was to keep out the eye of the media.According to The News International, he said that there had been past violations of this principle and that governments have released video and pictures of intelligence chiefs several times.

Shoaib stated that the intelligence chiefs shouldnt be displayed on TV and media screens.He explained that the reason the spymasters in general arent recognized by the public around the globe is the same.

According to the report, he said that this principle was compromised in Afghanistan when General Hameed Gul headed the ISI and General Javed Nassir led it.Although he claimed he wasnt part of any intelligence networks, he said that he was still a civilian and was not promoted to the rank of GOC Quetta by the Army Chief General Abdul Waheed Kakar.However, he advised him to avoid the media when he was posted in the post.

Ejaz Awan (major general) told The News, that Ejaz has been a member of the ISIs past ranks, and that his new DG ISI appears to follow the same pattern as the previous DG ISI, which is not being made public in the media.Awan recalled how his DG ISI General (ret.
