New Covid variant: TN intensifies screening in airports

Chennai, Nov 27, : The Tamil Nadu government directed screening at Chennai International Airport and other airports in the state to be intensified after the Union Health Ministry issued a warning about the potential danger posed by the new Covid-19 variant.

Following which the state secretary issued directives for all district collectors to follow the guidelines.This includes the testing of travelers from certain countries and following Covid-19 protocols.

Botswana, South Africa, and Hongkong travelers will need to undergo mandatory tests and, if necessary, quarantine.J.Radhakrishnan, the state health secretary, stated in a statement that Tamil Nadu was the first state to make RT-PCR negative reports mandatory for travelers from any country.He stated that testing at arrival for countries such as South Africa, Botswana, and Hongkong is mandatory.
