Chennai, Nov 27, : , The Tamil Nadu government directed screening at Chennai International Airport and other airports in the state to be intensified after the Union Health Ministry issued a warning about the potential danger posed by the new Covid-19 variant. Ma Subramanian, the state health minister, told IANS that he received an alert from Union Health ministry.
Following which the state secretary issued directives for all district collectors to follow the guidelines.This includes the testing of travelers from certain countries and following Covid-19 protocols.
Botswana, South Africa, and Hongkong travelers will need to undergo mandatory tests and, if necessary, quarantine.

Radhakrishnan, the state health secretary, stated in a statement that Tamil Nadu was the first state to make RT-PCR negative reports mandatory for travelers from any country.
He stated that testing at arrival for countries such as South Africa, Botswana, and Hongkong is mandatory.
The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine will tighten RT-PCR tests.
The state health department has also begun testing passengers arriving from Singapore, Brazil and China.
