Netherlands reports 13 Omicron variant cases, more testing is ongoing

The Hague, Nov 29, : The Dutch Health Authority has reported 13 cases of Omicron coronavirus variant in passengers who flew from South Africa.
These cases were among 61 passengers who had tested positive for coronavirus.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment added a statement.

The RIVM said that 13 of the positive tests for the new coronavirus variant, B.1.1.529 or Omicron, have been completed in a continuing sequencing study.

According to the Dutch Health authority, the investigation is still ongoing and the new variant could be found in additional test samples.

According to Xinhua news agency, the RIVM urged returning travellers from Omicron risk countries (South Africa, Botswana and Malawi, Lesotho.Eswatini.Namibia, Mozambique, Mozambique, Mozambique, Zimbabwe) to have their passports tested if they had returned since November 22.

624 South African passengers were tested for coronavirus on Friday.61 of them received positive results.

Friday’s flight cancellations by the Netherlands from South Africa were made in an effort to stop the spread of a new, potentially more transmissible virus.

Hugo de Jonge, Health Minister, stated on Sunday that he does not rule out the possibility for additional containment measures.This will depend on the severity and contagiousness the new variant, which is still unknown.
