Kathmandu 9 September : The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has suspended Nepal captain Sandeep Lamichhane following the issuance of an arrest warrant for the captain over an alleged incident of coercion of another person.It was reported on Thursday that Lamichhane’s complaint was filed in the Kathmandu police station.
The time was when the spinner was in the West Indies with the Jamaica Tallawahs squad for CPL 2022.
Lamichhane is not playing in one of the three matches played by the club so far and his stint in the CPL will be coming to an end.He is likely to be let go by Tallawahs the report from an ESPNcricinfo report stated.
The statement issued by the acting secretary of CAN Prashant Vikram Malla indicated that Lamichhane’s suspension would stay in place in the midst of an investigation.
It also stated that Lamichhane was called to report to the police in Kathmandu which are investigating the case.The decision to detain him was made after an session of the CAN board.
The young 22-year-old Lamichhane is perhaps Nepal’s most prominent cricketer.He is the sole player who has played in T20 leagues across the globe including the IPL as well as the Australian Big Bash League, the Bangladesh Premier League, the Lanka Premier League and the Caribbean Premier League.
Since making his international debut in May of 2018, he has represented Nepal in 30 T20Is and ODIs.The last time he played in December of 2021, Lamichhane replaced Gyanendra Malla as Nepal’s captain.
He is currently the 6th-youngest man to captain an ODI squad.Lamichhane is currently the second fastest man to reach 50 ODI wickets, and is the third-fastest man in the world to the 50 T20I wickets.
