Mumbai, Dec 8, 2008 : President Ram Nath Kovind paid glowing tributes Wednesday to the Indian Navy.He said that it is now considered by its maritime neighbors as a “preferential security partner in India’s Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The IOR is the gateway to a large portion of the world’s maritime trade.The President stated that maintaining peace and tranquility in the region is crucial, not only for India, but for the whole global community.
“India is a maritime nation, and our navy has a huge part to play in advancing our foreign policy and protecting our national interests.It has successfully protected our vast maritime interests with resolve, tenacity,” stated President Kovind.
India has an opportunity to play a pivotal part in the Indo-Pacific Region’s emerging geopolitical challenges.As one of the largest navies in this region, it has made significant efforts to meet all regional commitments and improve relations with its partners in the Indo-Pacific Region.
In the presence of Governor Bhagat Sing Koshyari, Chief Of Naval Staff Admiral R.Hari Kumar, the President spoke while presenting the coveted “President’s Standard to 22nd Mittle Vessel Squadron” here.
