Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra was lost as Capital of Madhya Pradesh in 1953.

In 1953, Maharashtra was formed with the merger of Bombay State and Madhya Pradesh States. The honour of holding a session of the newly created Maharashtra State every year was bestowed on Nagpur.

The Vidarbha leaders and protagonists signed the Nagpur Agreement on September 28, 1953.They had previously submitted their demand for Vidarbha State to the State Reorganisation Commission (SRC), headed by Justice Fazal Ali.This suggested an alternative to giving priority to Nagpur and Vidarbha regions and holding Assembly Session there.

Therefore, the Winter Session is not held in 2020 and 2021.

The MVA government has not yet visited Nagpur to hold the Winter Session State Assembly.
