CNBC saw the memo from Tesla CEO, where he stated that historically, Tesla employees have been able to sprint at the end of each quarter to maximize delivery, but that deliveries plummet in the first few weeks.

He wrote that “In effect, over a 6-month period, we won’t have delivered any additional cars, but we will have spent lots of money and burned ourselves out trying to accelerate deliveries in each quarter.”

According to the report Tesla has not yet released a clear delivery goal for 2021 but stated that it intends to increase deliveries by approximately 50% annually.

Tesla reiterated its guidance of “50% average annual growth vehicle deliveries” over a multiyear horizon, including during its third quarter earnings call.

The electric car-maker produced 500,000 vehicles in 2020 and reported that it had delivered 627,350 units in the first three quarters 2021.
