MP HC notifies Kamla Nehru about the Kamla Nehru fire at Kamla Nehru Hospital

Bhopal, Nov 29, : Monday’s notice was issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court to the state government.It sought its response on the Kamla Naehru hospital fire incident that left at least five children dead.
While hearing a Public Interest Litigation, (PIL), filed by P.G.Najpande sought to be directed to lodge an FIR against the hospital’s erring employees and officials.

The petitioner also claimed that more than a dozen infants died from suffocation in this incident, while the state put the figure at five.

He stated that his argument was based upon two main points: why should an FIR be not registered against erring officials, and why is the government concealing actual deaths.

During the hearing of the petition, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ravi Malimath asked the state government for its response as soon as possible.

“The court has given notice to MP government and sought its response,” an advocate representing petitioner told IANS.

On November 8, a fire broke out in the special newborn care unit of Kamla Nehru Hospital.

It was located on the premises at Hamidiya Medical College, the state’s largest medical institute.

A ventilator machine was connected to the fire and sparks erupted, according to an inquiry report by the state government.

Parents and other locals protested outside the hospital for more than two days after the incident.The opposition Congress also staged a protest outside the hospital demanding action against the corrupt officials.

They have been accusing state government of concealing actual deaths.

According to an inquiry report from Bhopal district collectors, the state government had suspended several officials, including CMO Kamla Nehru hospital.
