The majority of Indians think that Covid Vax is not fair: Report

New Delhi : Nov 23, 2009 - A staggering 80 percent of Indians believe its more difficult to obtain the Covid vaccine for daily wage workers than for salaried middle-class people.

This is because the innoculation drive wasnt equitableOxfam Indias latest survey, "Securing Rights of Patients in India", was conducted in August 2021.It received 10,955 replies.83% of respondents believed all vaccines should be free from the government.Just 2 percent were supportive of raising fuel and food taxes to help fund Indias Covid-19 vaccine drive.55% of respondents believe that Indias wealthiest 1000 families should be taxed a single time at 1%.Only 27 percent of the population has been fully immunized so far.According to Oxfam India, 55% of respondents believe that an imposed tax of 1% on Indias wealthiest 1000 families would be beneficial in funding the whole vaccination program at INR 500 billion (or $6.8 billion).Amitabh Bhar, Oxfam Indias CEO, stated that the poor and middle classes of India should not be subject to higher fuel and food tax rates for vaccination drives.

Additionally, even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he would not discriminate in the vaccination drives conduct, 74% of respondents who earn less than Rs 10,000 per monthly and 60% from marginalised or minority communities feel the government failed to inform them how to get vaccinated.Nearly 90% also believe that government should ensure that those who are marginalised, such as street dwellers or migrant workers, asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants have access to vaccines without the need to provide documentation.8/10 respondents were also skeptical that India will be able to fully vaccinate everyone by December 2021.There were other challenges with the vaccination drive, with 9 percent of respondents reporting that they lost a day of work to get vaccinated.43% reported that there was no vaccine at the centres when they visited them.rvt/b #majority #Indians #Covid #Delhi.
