Rabat, Nov 26th : Morocco will suspend all passenger flights to France starting Friday in an effort reduce Covid transmission following reports from France of a resurgence. The suspension will take effect at 11.59 p.m., and will remain in effect until further notice, according to the Moroccan Monitoring Committee of Covid-19 in a statement.
According to Xinhua news agency, the decision was made “to preserve Morocco’s achievements in terms management of the Covid-19 pandemic” and “to deal with the deterioration in the health situation in some European nations”.
Morocco had previously cancelled flights to Russia, the UK, and the Netherlands for the exact same reasons.
Since November 10, the country has seen a significant drop of Covid-19 cases, which confirms the end of the third wave.
Morocco is Africa’s most vaccinated country against Covid.The vaccination campaign was launched by Morocco on January 28.
The total number of people who have been fully vaccinated in Morocco has reached 22,613,171, which is more than 70% of the target population.
The Ministry of Health stated that so far, 24,405,128 first doses and 1,633,289 booster shots have been administered in Morocco.
So far, Morocco has registered 949 378 Covid cases as well as 14,770 deaths.
