Moon to preside at Covid response meeting amid surge

Seoul, Nov 26 : , South Korean President Moon Jaein will chair a Covid-19 Response Meeting next week.The meeting is being held because the country is facing an ongoing surge of serious cases.He said this on Friday.
Moon will host the meeting on November 29, during which he will discuss the rapid implementation of booster shots, and other containment measures with relevant Ministers, Yonhap News Agency reported.

South Korea has seen an increase in coronavirus infections per day since the government launched its first phase of the “living With Covid-19” scheme.This month, the government is encouraging people to return to their normal lives.

For the second consecutive day, the nation’s daily viral cases remained below 4,000 for Friday.However, critical cases rose to a new record high.

In the face of growing concerns about hospital beds shortages, critically ill patients reached an all-time high of 617 Friday.This is five more than the Thursday high.

Kim Boo-kyum, Prime Minister, stated earlier this week that the country’s virus situation was worse than expected, particularly in the capital.He urged health authorities to increase their containment efforts.

Kim stated that the Seoul metropolitan area, which is home to half the country’s population and is in urgent need of assistance.Kim suggested that Covid-19 consider imposing an emergency response plan based upon the virus risk assessment by health authorities.
