Monkeypox cases are slowing in US Experts

New York, Aug 31 : There have been fewer cases of monkeypox recently reported in certain large US cities, as well as across the nation however, experts say it’s too early to determine whether the trend will continue according to media reports.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky last week, stated she believes she is “cautiously optimistic” about the trend of decreasing but cautioned that the number is still rising.

“The rate of increase is lower but we are experiencing increases and it is of course a diverse nation and the trends are not just across the nation. Therefore, we are looking at this with cautious optimism,” she was quoted as saying.

According to the CDC The CDC, there were on average of 337 new cases of monkeypox reported every day in the US in the week preceding it.

This is a 24 per cent decrease from two weeks earlier -the difference of over 100 cases per day, according to the report.

A handful of elements can be seen “working together to make the curve bend,” Walensky said, such as vaccination, behavior changes and harm-reduction messages “being received and being implemented”.

Health officials say they are striving to better understand the factors that drive the changes in cases.
