New Delhi, Nov 20, : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends the Goa Liberation Day program to commemorate 60 years since the state was freed from Portuguese control on December 19, in Panaji.
According to sources, the Prime Minister will be attending the December 19th grand event.His itinerary details will be finalized in the next days.
They confirmed that Modi would be present and will address the main event.A senior BJP leader said that the celebrations are not just about commemorating events but also about celebrating the achievements of rural areas.
He said that the Prime Minister will attend the celebrations as part of his pre-election visit and that a few others may be made before announcement of the election date.During last years yearlong celebration, the BJP government organized a number of cultural events, seminars, and exhibitions to highlight the Goa governments work, identity, and struggles.
A BJP leader stated that "Our government celebrates the occasion as an opportunity for us to make contact with people in the lead up to the next year’s Assembly elections." The next elections for the Goa Assembly will take place in February and March 2013, along with Uttar Pradesh (Punjab), Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Uttarakhand.
Since 2012, the BJP is in charge of the coast state.The BJP in Goa will contest the first election following the demise of Manohar Parrikar (ex-defense minister), who was one of the most prominent leaders of the party.
