New Delhi, November 22nd : , Chief Justice of India NV RAMana said Monday that the current education system tends only to address the ‘utilitarian function’ of education.It is not equipped for the spiritual and moral function that builds character in students. Justice Ramana made these remarks while giving the 40th Convocation Address of Sri Sathya Sai Institute for Higher Learning, Andhra Pradesh.
His words were: “Unfortunately the modern education system tends only to focus on the utilitarian’ role of education.This system does not have the capacity to address the’morality’ and’spiritual functions of education, which build the character and allow students to feel responsible and socially conscious.
He said that education truly is one that instills the virtues of humility and selflessness as well as compassion and tolerance.
You will need to get along with people of different backgrounds who may challenge you from time to time.Be patient.Justice Ramana said that you should hold onto core values while you travel this life journey, so you can enjoy all it has to offer.”
The Chief Justice praised the founder of the University, Sathya Sai Baba.He said that education in this distinguished Institution had inculcated ethical and moral values.It radiates from this institution.This philosophy flows from Vedic philosophy and our rich mythology.”
He stressed that educated people have the responsibility of enriching society.They must also educate others and give power to communities and individuals.
Prema is action, service.
Baba is the greatest advocate for service and mentor.Sathya Sai means love.Sathya Sai is service.He said that Sathya Sai is sacrifice.
The Chief Justice hailed it as a unique university that was built around the idea of a modern gurukula.He added: “It’s also a gurukula where Indian culture, values, and lifestyle are inculcated to the students during their time at the institution.” This promotes mental strength and all-round development.
He stated that Baba had shown him the way to righteousness.
It is an idea that Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam has incorporated into our cultural ethos.
Justice Ramana stressed that the pandemic exposed deep-rooted weaknesses and increased inequalities within society.
He said, “In such times selfless service is essential.It is encouraging to see that the idea of serving others remains strong in people’s minds and hearts.It was evident in the way that people got together to help those who were most vulnerable, even students at this college.”I congratulate you all for your service to those in need.”
