San Francisco, December 8, 2018 : Mobile gaming spending continues to grow in 2021.It will reach $89.6 Billion from the App Store and Google Play globally. Although the category is still growing annually, its share in overall consumer spending has fallen.Mobile games accounted for 74.1 percent of all app spending in 2019.In 2020, it fell to 71.7 percent.Sensor Tower projects that its share will fall to 6.7 percentage points in 2021.
Mobile games still account the largest share of spending on any marketplace, accounting for 61.5 percent of iOS revenue and 78% of revenue on Google Play.
Mobile gamers will spend $52.3 billion worldwide on the App Store by the end of 2019, up 9.9% Y/Y from $47.6 Billion in 2020.Honor of Kings, from Tencent, is the most popular iOS game.It has generated $2.9 billion, an increase of 16 percent Y/Y over $2.5 billion.The title recently crossed the $10 billion mark earlier in the year.
In 2021, games on Google Play will be able to generate $37.3 billion in global consumer spending.This is 16.6% more than the $32 billion recorded in the previous year.Moon Active’s Coin Master is once more the highest-grossing title on Google Play.Its revenue grew 13 percent Y/Y from its total of $809.8 millions in 2020 to almost $912 million.
In 2021, the number of first-time mobile game installs will be 55.3 billion across Google Play and App Store.Sensor Tower projects predicts that this figure will drop by 1.6% Y/Y from 56.2 million last year.This is expected despite the incredible rise in adoption in 2020, which was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2021, mobile games will be downloaded 8.6 billion times worldwide on the App Store.This is a decrease of 14.9 percent Y/Y.Tencent will also be the top-ranked mobile game developer with PUBG Mobile.This includes the Chinese version Game for Peace.The title will have approximately 47.5 million downloads on the App store by the end of the year, a decrease of 18.5 percent from 58.3 millions.
