Sydney, Nov 30, : Former Australian spinner Shane Warne said that Mitchell Starc, 31, is not bowling well enough to be allowed in the home team for Ashes Series. The series begins at the Gabba on Dec 8.The 53-year-old spin wizard, who has taken 255 wickets and played 61 Tests, made the most infuriating remark about Starc, stating that Starc was not in his best form for the summer series against England. He also said that he needed to find “a bit of rhythm”.
“He had a really poor T20 World Cup (in UAE).He just doesn’t bowl well enough. He needs to find some rhythm and some form. It’s too important at Gabba (where the opening Ashes Test will be played).Warne stated that Jhye Richardson (to take his place) is the best option.
Starc took nine wickets at 27.55 for Australia’s title victory at the ICC T20 World Cup.However, he failed to take a wicket against New Zealand in the final, where he conceded 60 runs in four overs.
Warne also stated that Nathan Lyon’s form had also slowed last summer, and that he should not be considered an automatic selection for the Ashes.”He had a bad summer last year, as did Mitchell Starc, so that is where Australia really struggled.” Warne said that Lyon’s form wasn’t great.
“I hope (Mitchell Swepson) gives an option for selectors then say ‘well.you know, Nathan’s bowling is not that good or we want two spinners’, and put some pressure on Nathan Lyon.”
